Reitenour returns to Kil-Kare second in Super Cup standings
Friday, July 04, 2008
Megan Reitenour's debut in the Super Cup Stock Car Series ended with a 100-lap victory in March.
Her dad, Bill Reitenour, debuted a couple weeks later.
"He was getting ready to get lapped, I think on Lap 8, so he pulled off," Megan said of her dad, a former quarter-midget racer who volunteered to hop in a car to help fill out the field. "He was all about getting off the track when we were coming up near him.
"He said he got on the gas and when he did he was like, 'Oh my goodness.' He said it's a different world out there."
And Reitenour is going places in it.
The Miamisburg 17-year-old returns to Kil-Kare Speedway today, July 4, with the SCSCS. Reitenour won the Super Cup's inaugural event in Hudson, N.C., in March and is second in points. South Charleston's Ryan Miller, also expected to compete, is fourth.
"There's definitely more pressure to win at the home track," said Reitenour, who has run her Legends car, ARCA Lincoln Welders truck and a late model at Kil-Kare. "Hopefully we'll take over the points lead."
Tonight could be the perfect time to pilot the Martin "Mart" Nesbitt-owned 2007 Ford Fusion to victory. Reitenour said the television show "Inside Edition" is interested in doing a segment on her and might be at Kil-Kare.
"These cars are a lot different than anything I have driven. They're a lot heavier and they definitely take a lot of time to slow down," Reitenour said of the V-8 engine that cranks out 600 horsepower and tops out at 150 mph. "This year is a big learning curve in my career."
Reitenour — sponsored by Horn & Hardart Coffee, fatheadz.com, Salyers Financial Services, Ron's Pizza, Fox Motors and GE — is hoping for a large turnout. She said her family and friends are planning to sit in the bleachers between Turns 1 and 2.
On Saturday, Reitenour and Miller will team up to raise money for the RJ Corman Multiple Myeloma Foundation. The drivers will sign autographs and pose for photos with their cars from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.
Vallo tops in Ohio
Fairborn's John Vallo, who goes for career win No. 300 tonight at Kil-Kare, leads Ohio in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points.
Vallo (with Columbus Motor Speedway listed as his home track) has 357 points. That gives him a 114-point lead over Kil-Kare driver Tim Allensworth and puts Vallo 37th nationally. Bobby Justus (Columbus), Donnie Renner (Columbus) and Donnie Hill (Columbus) round out the top five. Kil-Kare's Justin Alsip is ninth.
