Of the nine who were interviewed last weekend, four will receive second interviews. The names of those four will be released today, said Kathy Leist, the district's assistant superintendent for human resources.
"The committee is very pleased with the candidates that have applied for this position, both inside our district as well as outside our district," Leist said. "We feel confident that we'll have an outstanding individual to recommend to our board."
Souder has been a math teacher and head coach at Kilbourne, in suburban Columbus, since 2000, following stints as a collegiate assistant at Eastern Kentucky (1999-2000), Hartford (1992-98) and Ohio State (1990-92).
He also has Butler County ties, having served as the head coach at Edgewood from 1983-88.
The other nine men who have interviewed for the position are Marcus Bixler, Michael DeCello, Douglas Foote, Pat Kreke, Gary McDaniel, Tim Reed, Tim Robinson, Sean Van Winkle and Pat Vuyancih.
The coach should be named shortly after this second round of interviews, Leist said.
"We're hoping to finish this as soon as we can," she said. "I believe that the sooner we let our students and our community know who this person is, it's better for everyone."
