Friday, July 04, 2008
Time to play catch-up again with the area's racers.
From stock cars to Daytona prototypes to dragsters, area drivers and their teams have been running well.
Nice run in Norwalk
It wasn't too bad a trip to Norwalk for Springboro hotshoe Rick Brown last weekend. Brown piloted his Chevy S-10 Competition Eliminator machine to the NHRA quarterfinals before losing to event winner Dave Rampy.
Rampy, who fell to Brown at an NHRA national event final in Georgia earlier this year, edged Brown by .0277 seconds at the finish line.

A crucial three-day weekend at Tri-State
Track official Bob Martin says this weekend's three-day Fourth of July weekend races at Tri-State Dragway will establish the chase for the Points Champion, as well as give a good idea of who will be trying to make the 32-car fields for Team Tri-State at the NHRA Bracket Finals at Indy in September, and the 32-car field for the Track's Rainbow Classic in October.
In anticipation of a record number of entries, races will begin by noon today and Saturday, and probably before that Sunday. The record for number of entries is 437, set on Memorial Day weekend.
Henderson haulin'
If you haven't seen Franklin's Sloan Henderson race this year, you're just not trying hard enough. Henderson ranks seventh in the nation in the Semi-Pro division of the 600 Racing Series. Rose rules
Middletown's Ty Rose and his family took a well-deserved vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C. this week, but Rose expects to return to the Young Guns Bandolero series this weekend. Rose has seven event wins this season, according to that same 600 Series Web site.
Doran nabs top 5
Lebanon-based Doran Racing earned its first top-5 finish of the season a few weeks ago in a Rolex Sports Car Series event at Watkins Glen. The bright-yellow No. 77 Doran/Dallara Ford raced at Daytona on Thursday, but hadn't finished the event at press time.
