‘We will still have to go out of town’

I am curious as to why the Middletown Journal (did) not run the same article as the Dayton Daily News did on Nov. 11 about Medical Mutual dropping Premier Health Partners from its network. This news was confirmed by both Medical Mutual and the hospital network on Nov. 10 — that their agreement would be terminated Jan. 1, 2010.

This is the first year that retired teachers are limited to one choice for 2010 — Medical Mutual. This means that retired teachers would not be able to use Atrium Medical Center as a network provider.

I find it strange that Premier has such difficultly negotiating with medical insurance providers. Atrium has “used” Warren County to make these road improvements, and now many Warren County citizens cannot use the facility. Also, Atrium advertised that we would be able to have open heart surgery at Atrium and would not have to go to Cincinnati or Dayton for the procedure. What a joke! We will still have to go out of town.

The citizens of this area have tolerated many inconveniences due to construction and improvements for Atrium but will not be allowed to use the facility. I will no longer make donations to Atrium Medical Center Foundation because of this situation. I had even considered making a bequest to this foundation in my will. However, I have changed my mind. ...
