Towne Casino

I’m in support of the Sound Off contributor who suggested transforming the Towne Mall into a casino. I would like to add that — with all the adjacent lodging facilities nearby and the proximity to the interstate — this proposal would definitely provide some financial support for Middletown and should be given serious consideration.

I read in the Oct. 28 Middletown Journal that a new veterans clinic is going to be built on Union Road near Atrium Medical Center. Why wasn’t downtown or someplace near downtown considered for the clinic? It would have helped our city a lot. It would bring people here. It is ridiculous putting it out there anyway. It’s going to help congest the area around Atrium. ...

Regarding the call about health care in the Oct. 29 Middletown Journal: What’s the big deal? The big deal is — if you don’t have health insurance and you get sick, you could lose your home and whatever small savings you have. That is the big deal.

I am reading “Judge bans Carlisle athlete” (Oct. 29). That really ticks me off. ... I thought in this country that you were innocent until proven guilty. Right now he has not been proven guilty of anything, so how in the world can he be banned from extracurricular activities? ... I think that is completely wrong.

I would like to know why the Middletown Journal would publish such a smutty story about Bobby Ward a week before the elections, based on partial information, and why the entire story was not investigated before it was published. (It was) based on comments made on a message board.

The Middletown Journal reports Oct. 28 that its circulation is declining. Well, duh. Who didn’t know that was going to happen? Did you ever think that maybe people are getting sick and tired of the liberal views that newspapers spew forth? Thank God for talk radio and Fox News.

I noticed in the sports pages of the Middletown Journal lately — since the Cincinnati Bengals are winning — that it is all Chad (Ochocinco) and the Bengals. It seems like you forgot that, a year ago, he turned his back on the Bengals, wanted to be traded and wouldn’t even deal with the media; but yet all your (headlines) start with “Chad and the Bengals.” It’s one whole team — not one and the team.

My wife and I were both neutral on Issue 3 until the harassment started. Her cell phone, my cell phone and our home phone received two to three calls a day. Our mailbox was stuffed with literature. ... I voted no.

Middfest is about art, culture, education and entertainment. Middletown is a salute to Kentucky every day. I will gladly pay $1.33 a day to escape that.

Does anyone remember Hillary Clinton excoriating President (George) Bush for a flu vaccine shortage? Today we have children dying from the H1N1 flu, due to a vaccine shortage, while our liberal president is busy campaigning and is at war with Fox News. I think our children and our troops in Afghanistan deserve a higher priority.

Thank you for the Nov. 2 editorial recapping your endorsements for the election. I found that very enlightening and changed my vote on two items.

Is it legal for someone to put political signs in your yard without asking permission? I came home and there were two signs in my yard. Last year there was also a sign in my yard that I did not give anyone permission to place. This year, at least I had already voted for that person by absentee ballot. Last year, I had never even heard of the person. ...

As for the Town Mall. Sears owns their building and
have no plans on going any were. It may interest you to know Town Mall Sears is one of the most profitable Sears in the Country! A very rare feather for Middletowns cap

Unwanted signs, I have a solution. Spray paint a red circle with a slash across it. They will disappear as quickly as they appeared.
