‘Such silence
 gives predators ample time ...’

It’s fine and dandy for the Rev. Dan Dorsey to “await a just decision” of the child molestation charges against an Ohio priest (“Priest not practicing after molestation charges”). However, if Dorsey were really interested in learning the truth, and perhaps protecting other kids, he would have disclosed the child sex allegation against one of his priests eight months ago, when it was first made, instead of staying silent so long.

Such silence gives predators ample time to intimidate victims, threaten witnesses, fabricate alibis, destroy evidence and even leave the country.

And Dorsey would be actively begging anyone with information about the alleged crimes to call the police. It’s time for Catholic officials to stop being passive and secretive about clergy crimes. It’s time for them to actively help police and others safeguard children.

its probably because this abuse by priest and all clergy is a historical fact.they do it because you give them the power and position to do it and the opportunity for it.

The problem is that disclosure becomes a de facto conviction. Even the tone of the letter from SNAP indicates that they already have convicted this priest. Isolate the priest and report to police? Sure. Convict him in the press? Never.

SNAP is rapidly positioning itself to abuse priests. They want to be the convicting agency. They can't wait for the courts to do their work. They want to rush to judgment.

No one interested in justice should want to do that. Makes them just as bad.

Thank you Mrs. Dorris for your letter. It is sooo long overdue that this problem be stopped as soon as it is revealed. The leaders of the church, of all people, should have more love and compassion. All they care about is money and how much they will have to pay. That is why they stay silent for so long, hoping some how it will fade away with the wind. Shame on them. Where is the love for these poor souls that have endured the worst of crimes committed against them as children. Sick.
