To the caller complaining about how slow the leaf pickup is in Franklin: Be glad at least that they still do it — because Middletown doesn’t do it at all. Find something else to cry about.

The only reason the casino issue passed is because all the smokers voted “yes,” thinking they would be able to smoke in those casinos. ...

To the Middie announcers: I admire your enthusiasm. However, I think you would benefit from a stronger vocabulary and from some tutoring and instruction for announcing games. We miss the days of Dan Humphreys, when we really had a strong person to follow. He was very knowledgeable and had a strong vocabulary.

Mr. (Anthony) Marconi: In the Nov. 8 Journal, you said you were shocked that an inexperienced, unknown newcomer won against an experienced incumbent with proven knowledge. Of what? You haven’t done a thing for this town. There are no jobs. We’ve got so much Section 8 it’s not even funny. You’re gone because we are tired of seeing your name in the paper and you not doing anything for this town.

Regarding the call about ruining the town with garage sale signs: Boy, have they got a lot to learn. Killing this town is not a garage sale sign. It’s building garages in neighborhoods and working on cars all night. These people don’t seem to understand. In a residential area, there should not be any businesses started up that involve working on cars all night long. If City Council would take a ride around and look, they could see some of the sorry stuff that’s going on in Middletown. That’s why people don’t come to Middletown.

It was disappointing during the election that only about a third of Middletown’s registered voters turned out to actually vote. If the 2nd Ward is so upset about losing the ward system, more people should have gotten out to vote. ...
