Don Dixon is worried about tax cutting in Butler County and thinks to pay his Butler County employees for time off at Christmas and New Year would be a waste of taxpayers’ money. I guess if I got paid what he does and worked a few days a month, I wouldn’t worry either. His loyal employees should have a day off through Christmas and New Year, especially since all employees voluntarily had their hours cut for him to better meet his budget.

Regarding Clarence Page’s commentary Aug. 25, “Americans are dumbing down”: Correct indeed. The last paragraph summed up perfectly how (Barack) Obama was elected president in 2008. When elections are close, the deciding votes usually come from the least-informed, least-engaged and most emotionally-driven voters. Heaven help us. Obama has placed this country in more of mess in two years than George W. Bush in eight years.

Thanks to Steve Dana for his letter about “do nothing” John Boehner versus Justin Coussoule. We definitely need a better representative in Congress. Fifty-five percent of voters in this big district are independent, so we can surely send a message to Congress this year.
