‘Intended to bring charter up to date’

The (Middletown) charter review commission devoted hundreds of hours to the study and consideration of many charter change recommendations. Of the many studied, only 12 were recommended to council. After review, council placed 10 issues on the ballot for voters to consider in the election of Nov. 3.

All of the issues recommended by the commission to council were passed with a super-majority of at least 11 to 4, and many of them were passed by an unanimous vote and a few with one “no” vote.

The Middletown Journal has provided good background information about all 10 of the issues. It is clear the purpose of all the issues are intended to bring the charter up to date and make it possible to operate more effectively and efficiently. ...

The members of the Charter Review Commission who have signed this letter strongly recommend that voters approve all 10 charter changes on the ballot. Nine members of the commission agreed to sign the letter. They are Christopher Amburgey, Kent Bradshaw, Rob Hoffman, Joe Mulligan, Paul Nenni, Dan Picard, Mike Scorti, Dick Slagle and myself.

Three did not wish to sign — Wanda Glover, Paul Nagy and John Soppanish. We were unable to contact the other three members — Jamey Colts, Kent Ferguson and Fred Gibson.
