‘Incredible campaign’

United Way of Greater Cincinnati – Middletown Area has raised $1,250,717. Our goal was to come together as a team, as a community, to raise the funds necessary to advance the common good, and to help support United Way’s work in creating the building blocks — education, income and health — for a better life for everyone throughout the Middletown area.

It has been an incredible campaign. In a time when people are more cautious with their dollars, many of our workplace campaigns saw significant increases, and we have added scores of new donors. ...

So far, we have received $22,468 from 26 new company campaigns and 30 new individuals, and we expect those numbers to grow within the next few weeks. ...

Under the leadership of campaign cabinet members Will and Marcia Andrew, several new physicians and attorneys have become supporters.

MPW Industrial Services and The Inn at Renaissance Village are running an employee campaign for the first time. The Lone Star Steakhouse held a special event to celebrate their reopening and donated all the proceeds to United Way.

While many individuals and companies have done an outstanding job this year, I would like to pay tribute to those companies who had “WOW” employee campaigns.

Frost Brown Todd LLC increased their dollars raised by 162 percent and achieved 100 percent participation. Madison Local Schools got off the ground with a chili cook-off the night of the Madison/Monroe football game and achieved a 403 percent increase over last year.

AK Steel Corp., Middletown City Schools and Monroe Local Schools achieved WOW campaign status for the second consecutive year. AK Steel raised $450,000. ...

The city of Middletown focused on department participation, a school supply collection for Middletown schools and a chili cook-off. Miami University Middletown kicked off its campaign off with a “Get the Scoop” event that featured United Way education and ice cream cones.

... MillerCoors also instituted a first-time corporate match, and Meijer held 18 educational kickoffs. Contech Construction Products and Mount Pleasant Retirement Village both achieved increases of more than 65 percent.

Thanks to the community’s support, United Way will be able to continue helping ensure children are prepared for kindergarten, youth achieve success in school and life, families are financially stable, and people are healthy and independent.

For individuals not part of workplace campaigns, United Way’s microsite — www.wecanliveunited.org — is still available for those who would like to make a donation. Copies of pledge cards can also be faxed to United Way at (513) 705-1177. ...
