We have enjoyed a fantastic autumn season with lots of leaves. For a widow, sometimes it is overwhelming. On Nov. 15, someone knocked on my door. The yard was consumed with about 15 young people. “We came to rake your leaves,” they yelled. In no time, the front yard of our acre was leaf-free. Then they did the neighbor’s yard. This was a community service project of the Spring Hill Church of Christ youth group. Thanks, kids.
... It is pretty clear to me now that everybody in the Republican Tea (Party movement) has no moral guiding compass. You are willing to throw around words like “fascism,” “communist” and “socialism.” You people wouldn’t know fascism if you tripped over it in a dark hallway. You have no clue. You are just making those words up because some community college dropout named Glenn Beck told you these words and you think you understand. ... You’re really lost. You’re really deluded. If you guys ever get near the levers of power, God help this country.
There have been more cons than pros on the question of Middfest. Here is a pro. We have enjoyed Middfest since its beginning and find the $5 entrance fee is a true bargain when you consider the city building is converted into a museum with the huge science and history displays showing off the attributes of the country it represents. There is constant entertainment on the Miller stage and the other stages with dancers and musicians. Good grief — what else do you want for $5? If you read the Middfest magazine, you see a list of hundreds of contributors to its annual fund drive. How much did you give? ...
The Democrats don’t have time to be worried about the terrorists. They are too busy being scared to death of Sarah Palin. Isn’t it wonderful?
Question: Didn’t the president really look presidential wearing his Chinese garb? The Chinese worker shirt and pants? That’s our president trying to be one of the people in a foreign country; but to heck with his own people in his own country.
In the so-called Middletown Journal Nov. 16, the local page has four stories. Two about Monroe, one is about West Chester and one is about Springboro. Nothing about Middletown on the front page of the local section of the Middletown Journal.
Thanksgiving is getting near. Unemployment is more than 10 percent and rising daily. We have an incompetent boob in the White House causing the problems. What in the world is there to be thankful for?
I can’t believe they are recommending that women wait until they are 50 years old to have a mammogram. I was 33 when I had breast cancer. My best friend was 28 when she had breast cancer. Most of the people that I know were younger than 50 when they got breast cancer. I am now in my 60s. Fortunately, I was one of the lucky ones who found the lump and had it taken care of. Many people will not find them without a mammogram. I had a second bout and it was found with a mammogram. ...
Regarding the letter “Huge gaping hole” in the Nov. 18 Middletown Journal: Congratulations to Mrs. (Teresa) Cunningham for a wonderful, intelligent article. I believe Rep. (John) Boehner is so devoted to two things in his life — that is, lobbyists and golf. He knows he is through as a representative from the 8th District. He is grooming himself to become the greatest lobbyist ever. The folks of the 8th District have created a selfish, greedy, uncaring monster. Wake up.
