Regarding Frank Frisch, who thinks that Middletown should have a hillbilly festival, instead of Middfest: I say, broaden your views and stop being so narrow-minded. Not all of us who live in Middletown have relations in Kentucky. As most people know, rednecks tend to be clannish, narrow-minded and non-inviting to people of other cultures or even to their fellow Americans of different backgrounds. Middfest is just the answer to broaden all of our minds. There is life outside of Middletown and Kentucky, you know. Not all of us are from the sticks.

I am calling about the stop signs that were taken down on Butter Street and East Market in Germantown. Someone is going to get killed if they don’t pay attention (and realize) that those have been removed. It is no longer a four-way stop. My young children have learned all kinds of new sign language because of this. I’ve had people pull out in front of me, three or four times in the last two weeks, and I get flipped off as I drive through the intersection. They need to wake up and pay attention or someone is going to get really hurt.

It is obvious that the terrorists in Afghanistan have been emboldened by the fact that (Barack) Obama is in the White House. One thing they know is that Obama is too busy terrorizing us to do anything about them.

Regarding the Oct. 28 “Other voices” editorial about the “Balloon boy and the rush to judgment”: It says in the editorial that sometimes we judge people before we should. Sometimes in America, we don’t judge people quite fast enough. These parents may be putting these kids in harm’s way if they aren’t thinking properly, or if they are mentally incapacitated by trying to get things and themselves in the news. Maybe these kids should be taken away immediately.

This is to the person who called us hillbillies redneck, narrow minded and non-inviting to others not from their clan. You have no business commenting on anyone else or to call anybody narrow minded! Its uppitty, self righteous people like you that make people NOT want to visit Middletown. I would bet my paycheck that a mountain festival would draw alot more people than your white, close minded Middfest. And you can kiss my hillbilly ***!

I have to agree with FedUp. Midfest has had dwindling crowds since they started charging admission to be filled with wonderous illusions of other countries. How much culture are you trying to cram down people's throats ? A different theme should be tried. The other local festivals all draw fantastic crowds; Pretzel, Strawberry, Popcorn, and SauerKraut festivals are always crowded. Make it an Octoberfest or Mardi Gras and watch the crowds flock !

To the person commenting about people with family ties to Kentucky.Isn't that the kettle calling the pot black? Seems you have managed to put all members of this group into one small narrow minded stereo type.Maybe you should stop watching beverly hill billies.A mountain(hillbilly festival) would bring a lot more people to Middletown then what we have had in October in the past years.
