Sarah Palin is a phenomenon I do not understand. It is hard enough to see her as an obscure state governor. That gun-toting bimbo from Alaska — with her shrill voice and her dysfunctional family — is an absolute embarrassment for the GOP in the national political arena.

In Europe, her name would get you a snicker at best. Should she ever get into a more elevated position in our political hierarchy — through GOP money — it would be the ultimate decline of the U.S. into the irrelevant and the ridiculous in the eyes of the world.
