Editor’s note: This is the final fishing report for 2009.
Rocky Fork Lake: Plenty of white bass have been caught recently in front of the south beach and north beach. Small crankbaits and twisters have worked best. Crappies have been caught on minnows around the island and Kelleys Cove. Bass have been hitting spinners around points 4-6 feet deep. Perch are still being caught around the old restaurant and on the west side of south beach, usually on minnows.
Lake Loramie: “Spotty” was how the fishing was described over the past week. Fish close to the banks for bluegills with waxworms. Anglers are catching crappies, but most are small. Fish around brush in 1-2 feet of water. For saugeyes, try the Luthman Road bridge area with large minnows.
Caesar Creek Lake: Crappie fishing has been good around sunken trees in the mouths of coves at 6-10 feet deep. Use minnows or fish in the same areas to catch bluegills on waxworms. A few crappies have also been caught along the rock wall. Saugeye fishing has been slow.
Indian Lake: Fishing has been generally slow. The lake level is still low, so only small boats have been on the lake. A few perch were caught at Oldfield this week and the crappie fishing in the old game reserve has been good at times. The best spot has been the second channel around lily pads.
C.J. Brown Reservoir: The best fishing has been around the fish attractors and sunken trees between the boat ramp and the marina. Perch and crappies have been caught there and even a couple of walleyes.
Acton Lake: Crappie fishing has been good, but most are small. Look for brush and fish with minnows at varying depths. Saugeye fishing has picked up on the flats between the beach and the sugar camp. Fish with large minnows.
Rush Run: Bluegills and trout are still being caught. Use waxworms fished close to the bank for bluegills. Trout are hitting waxworms, small spinners, trout bait and corn.
Grand Lake St. Marys: Crappies are scattered in the channels. Try fishing with minnows or purple split-tails in brushy areas. Bluegills are hitting waxworms or pieces of nightcrawler around docks.
Paint Creek Lake: The lake level has been dropped, so only the ramp at the marina is in use. Crappie fishing has been good along the bluff walls, but most are small. Use a black/chartreuse jig or minnows. Bass have been hitting larger black/chartreuse jigs around rocks in 4-6 feet of water. Plenty of channel cats have been taken from shallow water. Fish in the spillway for saugeyes with chartreuse twisters.
Lake Erie: There were very few walleye fishing reports from the Western Basin over the past week. Boat anglers should try trolling around Kelleys Island and shore anglers fishing on the Lakeside pier. Good walleye fishing in the Central Basin has been from Cedar Point to Vermilion in 30 to 45 feet of water.
Yellow perch up to 13 inches have been caught east of Kelleys Island, off of Marblehead and off of Cedar Point. Other areas to try include the Toledo water intake, around Niagara Reef, west of Green Island and Rattlesnake Island.
