Students vote for president
Today I went over to Franklin’s Hunter Elementary School to check out the kick off to Right to Read Week.
This year’s theme “You Have the Right to Read” hit me in the face the moment I walked in — seriously, I ran right into one of the many red, white and blue stars hanging from the ceiling throughout the hallways.
This year, Franklin teachers are using the reading-based week to teach students about the election process. They are making posters and writing speeches for their class pick for president, and on Friday they’ll show ID and enter a voting booth.
The results will come back Monday and I’ll be checking in again, this time at Schenck, where Principal Tim Crowe will be dressing as Elvis.
Schenck students will be paying 10 cents to vote and the money will go to the local animal shelter.
So, I heard from students today nominations of Winnie the Pooh, Curious George and someone named Bad Kitty. Who would your kids pick?
