Blizzard conditions were officially reached Wednesday afternoon as visibility was below a quarter mile for three straight hours, according to WHIO Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.
“We did reach official blizzard conditions around midday,” he said.
Snow is expected to lighten through the evening, with maybe 1 to 3 inches of additional accumulation, Simpson said.
Wind is also lessening but snow will continue to be blown around creating drifts and covering once-cleared roadways.
Driving conditions are expected to be hazardous as ice forms through the evening. Simpson said the wind chill will be in the teens overnight.
“Snow that is packed down on area roads will be tough to get completely cleaned off roads as we always see,” he said. “Any additional traffic on that tonight will keep some icy and slick spots around through tomorrow morning.”
On Thursday there may be a leftover flurry early, then clouds may give way to a little sun in the afternoon.
“We’ll start in the mid 20s and rise to about 30 degrees.,” Simpson said.
Friday will be partly sunny with lows in the upper teens and highs again around 30, so not much melting is expected the next few days.
Overnight Friday night into Saturday the area will have another batch of lighter snow.
“This could drop up to a few inches (no more than 2” or 3” I would guess) and make roads slick again. Then we quiet down but get a bit colder to close the weekend and start the workweek next week,” Simpson said.
