Osterman ends Centre career on high note

Senior Jason Osterman has closed out his Centre College football career with a first-team selection in the Southern Athletic Association.

Osterman, a Monroe High School graduate, was the Colonels’ top wide receiver in 2012, catching 38 passes for 589 yards and four touchdowns.

Junior defensive back Ben Leahy (Monroe) was third on the squad with 56 total tackles. He also had five pass breakups, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Centre finished 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the SAA.

• Redshirt freshman quarterback Kyle Pohl (Valley View) converted 38-of-58 passes for 366 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions this season for Akron, which finished 1-11 overall and 0-8 in the Mid-American Conference East Division.

Pohl saw action in six games.

• Denison senior defensive lineman Teddy Kuntz (Fenwick) was an honorable-mention pick in the North Coast Athletic Conference this season. He accumulated 28 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Also for the Big Red, who were 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC, sophomore defensive back Alec Fultz (Middletown) had 31 tackles, six pass breakups and two kickoff returns for a 22.0-yard average.

• Senior defensive lineman Jason Hutchins (Springboro) notched nine tackles in eight games this year for Capital, which was 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

• Sophomore defensive tackle Justin Cox (Fenwick) started every game this season for Morehead State, collecting 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

The Eagles were 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Pioneer Football League.

• Redshirt senior Owen Elger (Springboro) was a starting offensive guard in 2012 for Dayton, which finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Pioneer Football League.
