It’s always refreshing to hear of a group of race drivers who are willing to help their fellow race fans.

For the third straight year, Shane Mugavin has teamed with several area businesses to create the Racers Feeding Families food drive.

The event itself will take place on Sept. 30 at the Moler Raceway Park dirt oval in Williamsburg, but Mugavin is currently looking for prize donations.

Area businesses, race teams and anyone else who would like to help a nice cause are invited to submit a prize to help raise funds for the needy.

Fans who donate a canned good on race day will receive a chance to win race tickets, race gear, products and gift certificates.

A full night of Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Chevettes will be on tap that night for fans to enjoy.

Kids under 15 get in free and Mugavin says there will be foot races for the kids during the racing intermission.

“The first two years, we fed more than 100 families,” Mugavin said. “Right now we need more donations for prizes. This is a great way to get your name out and to help people who are in need.”

Moler Raceway Park, Goodsleeve Screenprinting, CincinnatiModifiedChampionship.com, Bliss Salon, Derrick Davis Racing have stepped up to help Mugavin’s food-drive effort so far.

This week, Mugavin announced that Lucky 7 Speedway, in Whitesburg, Ky., has offered to run a similar Racers Feeding Families canned food drive on Sept. 24.

Indy Fourway: If you enjoyed this year’s Brickyard 400, next year’s event should be better yet.

Not only will the NASCAR Sprint Cup racers return for the Brickyard 400 race, but the Nationwide Series will make its debut at the track along with the GRAND-AM Road Racing Series.

Four races are scheduled over three days of action.

Tickets went on sale Aug. 1 for the Aug. 26-29 race weekend, and are available at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ticket office or at: www.imstix.com.

Go Shannon: Miamisburg open-wheel racer Shannon McIntosh is expected to be among those who are competing this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington near Mansfield.

McIntosh will compete in the U.S. Formula 2000 National Championship series, with races on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Indycar Series will race there on Sunday.
