CARLISLE —

Before his Franklin boys basketball team took the floor against backyard rival Carlisle, Wildcats coach Brian Bales told his troops to forget weathering the storm.

“Create the storm,” Bales told them as they stepped onto the floor.

What the Wildcats created may end up being named by the National Weather Service.

Behind 38 points from Luke Kennard and 33 from Travis Lakins, Franklin went for over 20 in each quarter, turning a 50-19 halftime cushion into a 105-44 win over the Indians to improve to 14-3.

Wildcat pressure forced 23 Carlisle turnovers and 17-of-54 shooting from the floor, including 8-of-26 in the first half. Carlisle’s Andrew Goodpaster, who entered averaging more than 20 points, was held scoreless in the first half and to just one field goal en route to a four-point evening.

The Wildcats topped the century mark with 1:45 left in the game on a trey by Evan Crowe – one of 14 3-pointers by Franklin the Wildcats went 14-for-28 from beyond the arc.

Carlisle was able to keep the deficit in the 30s for most of the third quarter before Franklin closed with a rebound and a put-back by Matt Thompson and a mid-range jumper by Connor Stickelman that just beat the buzzer for a 77-36 Franklin lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Kennard and Lakins both made their exits before the midway point of the fourth quarter with Franklin leading 92-42.

Lakins and Kennard combined for the first nine points of the game before the Indians could get on the board on a short jumper by Braden Lieungh (19 points) and a lay-in by Jairus Milton (12 points) to cut the deficit to 9-4 with 5:11 left. Franklin, however, behind eight more from Kennard and five more from Lakins closed the opening stanza on a 15-4 run to push the lead to 24-9.

A steal and an old-fashioned three-point play by Kennard pushed the lead to 32-11 with 6:09 left in the half. A trey by Lakins pushed it to 41-1, with 3:35 left and Kennard kept it over 30 at the break with a basket with four ticks left for a 50-19 cushion.
