MIDDLETOWN —

A week removed from notching three big wins in Florida, the Fenwick High basketball team found the home court not so hospitable Friday night against Roger Bacon High.

One of the top teams in Cincinnati, the Spartans used a late run to sneak out of Middletown with a 60-48 win.

“Right now, Roger Bacon is a tougher team than us and they know how to close out the game,” Fenwick coach Pat Kreke said. “They showed a lot of mental and physical toughness we need to develop.”

Erik Edwards tallied 13 points and snagged 10 boards, Fred Moore chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds. Austin Frentsos added 11 points and Carlas Jackson scored 10 for Roger Bacon, which improved to 10-1, 5-0 in the Greater Catholic League.

Frank Catrine poured in a game-high 17 points and Will Sennett had nine points for Fenwick, which dropped to 7-2, 2-2 GCL.

Fenwick had trouble finishing quarters all night, yielding an 8-0 run to finish the first stanza and a 15-3 run to end the second while falling behind 25-17 at half.

“We played with a lot of heart but make no mistake, there is a difference between toughness and heart,” Kreke said. “We need to develop that toughness.”

Tied at 38 with 5:40 remaining, Roger Bacon blew the game open with another big run, rattling off 12 straight points.

Luke John Arrington added six points and snagged five boards while Brian Jacobs scored seven points for the Falcons, who return to action tonight, traveling to Twin Valley South.
