Area boys basketball players to watch

By Staff

Mark Alstork, 6-4, sr., Thurgood Marshall: A career 14.0 scorer, drawing mid-level interest; three-year starter for Cougars.

Monty Boykins, 6-4, sr., Lakota West: Averaged 16.6 points and 6.2 rebounds; receiving offers from most MAC programs and mid-majors.

Evan Bradds, 6-7, sr., Greeneview: Outstanding potential, averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds for Rams; signed with Belmont (Nashville, Tenn.).

Jalen Camper, 6-4, sr., Beavercreek: Good leaper, averaged 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds; co-player of year in GWOC Central.

Derrick Daniels, 6-7, fr., Thurgood Marshall: Expectations – and hype – are as much as any great player who ever has played City League ball, which are many. A big-time reason why Cougars will be No. 1 in the first D-II state poll in early January. Already has offers from Dayton, Wright State and Iowa despite not having played one second of high school ball.

Zach Denny, 5-11, sr., Valley View: An outstanding long-ball threat, among state’s scoring leaders last season, averaging 28.8 points, six rebounds and three assists. Signed with Bowling Green.

Vincent Edwards, 6-7, jr., Middletown: Averaged 15.4 points and 12.4 rebounds for a great Middies team (20-6) last season; has offers from UD, Xavier and Purdue; son of former WSU standout Bill Edwards.

Jamar Hammonds, 6-4, sr., Trotwood-Madison: Averaged a team-high 17.4 points, 3.8 reobunds and shot 52 percent.

Amos “AJ” Harris, 5-9, so., Dunbar: Ran the point as a freshman during the Wolverines’ D-II state title season. Cat quick; also receiving multiple offers, including one from UD before last season. Toss-up between Harris and Kennard as the No. 1 recruit for the Class of 2015.

Landon Hormann, 6-5, sr., West Liberty-Salem: 15 points, 7.3 rebounds for the Tigers.

Luke Kennard, 6-5, so., Franklin: Averaged 17 points as a freshman on 20-0 regular-season team; has many offers, including OSU. Also heavily recruited as a quarterback.

Travis Lakins, 6-0, sr., Franklin: The other half of the Wildcats’ high-scoring backcourt. Signed to play baseball at OSU.

Maverick Morgan, 6-11, sr., Springboro: Area’s best big man averaged 21.3 points, 9.6 rebounds. Signed with Illinois.

Jaelin Williams, 6-5, sr., Spg. Shawnee: Averaged 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds; CBC Kenton player of the year.
