Junior end Jonathan Valentine is one of the top defensive players for the Ohio Wesleyan University football team this season.

The Franklin High School graduate has 34 total tackles and 10 sacks for the Battling Bishops, who suffered their first loss last Saturday (28-0 to Wabash).

OWU, 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, visits Allegheny on Saturday at 1 p.m.

• Junior wide receiver Kevin Watts (Middletown) has three catches for 15 yards this season for Youngstown State, which is 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The Penguins host South Dakota on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Men’s golf

Junior Rick Denny (Valley View) was Wright State’s No. 2 golfer in the Dayton Invitational on Oct. 22-23, finishing tied for 19th with a 7-over-par 76-73—149 at NCR Country Club.

The Raiders placed eighth among 18 squads.

Volleyball

Sophomore outside hitter Ally Beck (Fenwick) has contributed to an eight-match winning streak for Cleveland State, which is 17-6 overall and 9-1 in the Horizon League.

Beck has 64 digs, 12 assists, eight kills and seven service aces for the Vikings, who will host Wright State on Friday at 7 p.m.

• Mount St. Joseph is the regular-season Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion, aided by the efforts of sophomore setter Melanie Monahan (Fenwick).

Monahan has 323 assists, 65 digs and 14 service aces for the Lions, who are 12-14 overall and 8-1 in the HCAC.

MSJ will host the conference tournament’s semifinals and final this weekend. The Mount will meet either Hanover or Defiance in a 2 p.m. semifinal Saturday.

Men’s soccer

Freshman midfielder Josh Kellner (Springboro) made 11 starts and collected two assists this season for Otterbein, which finished 5-8-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
