WILLIAMSBURG, Va. —
Allen Roberts scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds Wednesday night as the Miami University men’s basketball team evened its record at 2-2 with a 72-59 road victory over William & Mary.
Bill Edwards tossed in 17 points for the RedHawks, and it was his 3-pointer from the top of the key just before halftime that pushed the visitors ahead for good. It was 26-24 at the break.
MU forced 18 turnovers by the Tribe (3-1), which got double-digit scoring efforts from Brandon Britt (17), Marcus Thornton (15) and Kyle Gaillard (12).
Jon Harris and Geovonie McKnight scored 9 points apiece for Miami, with McKnight making all four of his field goals and his only free throw. Roberts was 12-of-14 at the charity stripe.
The RedHawks lost the battle of the boards 37-34, but did get eight caroms from Will Felder. Quinten Rollins and Felder both marked 6 points.
MU shot 42.1 percent from the floor, sank 5-of-20 treys and converted 19-of-26 free throws. William & Mary shot 45.1 percent from the field, made just 4-of-15 attempts beyond the arc and drained 9-of-17 foul shots.
A crowd of 3,851 watched the contest at Kaplan Arena. The RedHawks opened the second half with a 10-3 spurt and never led by less than four the rest of the way.
Miami returns to action at home Saturday, facing James Madison at noon.
