CINCINNATI —
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones is expecting a fairly large personal cheering section Sunday in San Diego.
“It’s probably going to be around 30 people,” said Jones, a native of Fontana, Calif., which is about two hours north of San Diego.
“That’s always good, going back home,” Jones added. “I remember when I was at Cal. I would go to UCLA or USC and I’d have 25 or so people show up there. It’s always good going back to southern California.”
Jones said his dad and a handful of other relatives flew to Cincinnati for the Sunday night game against the Steelers on Oct. 21. But they didn’t get to see much as Jones was injured early in the first quarter on the Bengals’ first kickoff return.
He missed three games before returning to action Sunday against Oakland. He was on the field for nine snaps but finished without a catch.
“Obviously I’m still getting back adjusted to the game and stuff like that, but for the most part I felt good,” he said. “It’s not 100 percent, but it was good to get out there and test it. Just for me to have reassurance that it is good and I can play on it. That was a good feeling. I’m just going to keep progressing.”
Watch party
Nearly a quarter of the players on the Bengals roster will have more than a passing interest in Saturday’s SEC championship game between Alabama and Georgia.
Geno Atkins, Clint Boling, Orson Charles, Robert Geathers, A.J. Green and Dennis Roland all hail from Georgia, while Wallace Gilberry, Dre Kirkpatrick and Andre Smith attended Alabama.
“All of the Georgia guys are planning on watching it together,” Boling said. “It might be in the hotel, or we might go out somewhere because we have the afternoon free after our walk-through.”
One thing Boling was sure of is that he won’t be watching it with Smith.
“I don’t want to listen to him if Alabama is winning,” he said.
Notre Dame grads Jeff Faine and Trevor Robinson also will have a vested interest because the Fighting Irish will play the Alabama-Georgia winner in the BCS National Championship game.
“Part of me is rooting for Georgia but part of me is saying if we don’t play Alabama, people will always say ‘Well, you didn’t have to beat (Alabama coach Nick Saban),’” Robinson said. “But we’re in the national championship. We’ll take on all challengers.”
Sore Sanu
Mohamed Sanu showed up on the injury report Thursday. The rookie wide receiver was listed as limited with a foot injury he reportedly suffered during practice.
Sanu, who has four receiving touchdowns in the last three games, is expected to meet with team doctors this morning.
Other players listed as limited Thursday were wide receiver Andrew Hawkins (knee), center Kyle Cook (ankle), cornerback Terence Newman (shoulder) and tight end Richard Quinn (hamstring).
Running back Cedric Peerman and defensive tackle Pat Sims (thigh) were full participants after being limited Wednesday.
Red hot
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has thrown nine touchdowns and no interceptions in the last three games for a 117.2 passer rating.
Only New England’sTom Brady has a higher mark (118.9) for Weeks 10-12. Only New Orleans’ Drew Brees can match Dalton’s TD total of nine during the span.
The last Bengals quarterback to throw nine or more touchdowns with no interceptions over a three-game span was Jon Kitna, who was 9-0 in TDs-INTs in wins against Kansas City, San Diego and Pittsburgh.
