Redshirt freshman Sarah Chaney is having a standout season for Miami University’s volleyball squad.

Chaney, an outside hitter from Madison High School, leads the RedHawks in blocks with 43. She also has 94 kills, four aces and three assists.

MU won its Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational earlier this season, and Chaney was named Most Valuable Player.

Miami, 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-American Conference, travels to Bowling Green on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Football

Freshman cornerback Cody Quinn (Middletown) has played in four games for Kentucky, totaling six tackles (four solos, two assists). He also has one pass breakup.

The Wildcats are 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference. They’ll host Mississippi State on Saturday at 12:21 p.m.

Women’s soccer

Freshman midfielder Sydney Lovelace (Franklin) is among the leading scorers for Indiana State. She has three goals and has played in every game for the Sycamores, who are 5-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Freshman midfielder/defender Mackenzie Hamilton (Fenwick) and freshman defender Selby Smith (Fenwick) have appeared in nine and two games, respectively.

ISU hosts Creighton on Friday at 7 p.m.

Men’s soccer

Sophomore forward J.J. Dix (Lebanon) is tied for second in scoring at Denison, where he has three goals and one assist.

The Big Red are 4-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. They travel to Wooster on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Cross country

Morehead State senior Holly Mandzak (Springboro) finished 94th with a time of 19:12.46 last Saturday at the 5K Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer State Park.

MSU is back in action Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Fast Cats Classic at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro, Ky.
