where in the constitution does it say that the government will provide health care for all? where in the constitution does it say the government has to provide helath care for illegal aliens? I am tired of paying taxes to pay for you useless sponges and your welfare kiddies to get free medical care. I would love to cut you freeloaders off with your welfare single moms and their little crack babies. stop spending my money like there is no tomorrow.

In addition to my2cents comment, I also work at an area hospital, and we have been having to cut our hours by 10% per pay period. So, fewer hours to work equals less pay to take home, and co-workers having to spread even thinner when one of us is not there. Also, this affects patient care in these departments!!

No health insurance means trying to stay healthy so you don't have to go to the doctor. Unfortunately things don't always go the way you want. You ignore a symptom that escalates into a life threatening situation. Too rich for medicaid, too poor for private insurance, too young for Medicare, you end up bankrupt. Government involved in our medical care isn't a perfect solution but if it would be perfect it would cost more.

Socialized medicine does not work. Ask just anyone who has lived in Europe or Canada. Folks who have money in Canada come here for surgery...yep it's “free” (everyone pays higher taxes for it to be “free”) and they come here to pay. Because they can’t suffer the pain for 18+ months with a hip that needs replaced. Those with insurance can't go to the doctor when they have a cold because they have to save the $20 co pay to pay for the uninsured who go to the ER for EVERYTHING.

There is too much abuse of the Emergency Room system at Childrens. At times I had to take my son there for a broken bone, there were so many ppl there with kids who only had a cold, or a fever...hardly an emergency. But the ER was filled with them!

Yes Groucho and Libertarian all children should be responsible for their own health care. And if their parents can't find a job or are too worthless that's their responsibility too.
**** those kids for getting sick or hurt. Inmates are garaunteed healthcare as part of the Supreme Courts interpretation of the 8th Amendment but screw the kids.

Healthcare is not a right - it's a luxury. If you wish to receive healthcare, it is YOUR responsibility to purchase it (or purchase insurance). It is not the responsibility of the government, it is not the responsibility of the taxpayer, it is not the responsibility of your neighbor – it's YOUR responsibility. Don't look to anyone else to foot the bill.

The biggest problem with healthcare is involvement from the federal government. The federal government has NO authority to be involved with healthcare. Hospitals and doctors should operate in the free-market. A system based on competition, free-market principles, and capitalism is the ONLY way to improve efficiency and decrease costs. Government involvement is not the solution - government is the problem.

Medicaid allows recipients to go to the ER for anything. These people use the ER as their general practitioner. ITS WRONG!

Force these people to use the ER for emergencies only!

What's missing from this discussion??? How about the influx of illegal immigrants? California has had to close countless emergency rooms due to illegal invasion. And just think Obama wants to make illegals citizens, just in time for the next election.

Bob, you couldn't be more wrong about hospitals not eating the cost. As an employee of an area hospital, I can tell you, I can feel it! They have taken away every little extra thing they used to give the employees to show appreciation. EVERYTHING. All because we are in the red due to the uninsured. Hospitals are laying off workers left and right...we saw wage freeze and hiring freezw
Are you SURE they aren't eating the cost? I think you need to rethink that!

How about this for a choice? You pay for your health care, either through insurance or as you go, and I'll pay for mine.

Wouldn't that be a new concept? Everyone taking responsibility for themselves!

"Allowing" people to be uninsured? Maybe many choose to spend their money on other things instead of insurance, like I do. Treat health insurance like car insurance where you don't go to doctor for every little ache. Remember Jen, nothing is free.

We already HAVE socialized medicine. When people can't afford "traditional" healthcare, they go to emergency rooms. They can't pay, so the costs get passed on to the rest of us through higher health care costs. The hospitals certainly aren't eating the cost of treating the uninsured.
As a society, we would save tons of money by providing routine health care to the uninsured and taking the burden off emergency medicine.

But you can't get the conservatives to understand the math.

Gee, what a choice; I get no health care at all under GOP vs. national health care under Obama and the Dems. Some choicel; I'll take my chances with national health care any day.

Anon,
Is allowing 50 million Americans to go uninsured a viable option? Typical Right Wing response. Do Nothing unless it benefits big corporations or the rich. The last election proved that most Americans are onto the GOP. Their lack of understanding is obvious with the likes Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin constantly opening their mouths.

You think that's bad? Just wait till Obama gets national healthcare socialized.
