WARREN, Ohio — The U.S. Department of Labor has sued a Subway franchisee in northeast Ohio on allegations it violated minimum wage, overtime and child labor laws at five restaurants.

The suit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Youngstown seeks back wages for 68 current and former employees, civil penalties and other damages from Hray Enterprises for alleged violations at restaurants in Warren, Cortland and Brookfield.

During a two year investigation that ended in July, the government says, the company didn't pay employees for hours worked after restaurant closing times and allowed hourly wages to fall below the required $7.25 minimum by deducting cash register shortages. It also is accused of improperly requiring minors to operate machinery.

A telephone message seeking comment from Hray Enterprises was not immediately returned.
