COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett is again seeking early release from prison.

Clarett, who scored the winning touchdown for the Buckeyes in the 2002national title game, has filed a motion asking a judge to release him. No court date has been set.

Clarett, who wishes to pursue a football career, withdrew a similar request filed with the Ohio Parole Board last year.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said Tuesday he'll wait for a prison report on Clarett's conduct before deciding whether to support or oppose early release.

Clarett pleaded guilty in September 2006 to having a hidden gun in his sport utility vehicle and holding up two people outside a Columbus bar in a separate case. He was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison with possible release in 3 1/2 years.

I hope that his early release is granted. He has paid his dues and deserves an opportunity to earn a living or at pursue the opportunity. From what I have read from his blog that he writes to his sister and she posts, it sounds like he has grown-up and matured. Some people have to learn lessons the hard way, but I think he is a changed man. This experience in prison has humbled him and given him an opportunity to reflect on his life and learn. Good luck Maurice, you are in my prayers.Matt L

All this guy had to do was **** it up for one more year, and live the horrible life of an OSU football star and Heisman Trophy candidate. Then he would likely have been a fairly high draft choice and gotten a nice signing bonus and been set for life. Then again he likely would have squandered the money and still would have ended up robbing 7-11's. I do still appreciate him for being a major factor in the Buckeyes championship run.

Clarett wants to pursue a football career. HA! I would doubt the Bengals would even want this loser. He doesn't deserve to be released early. Le thim learn his lesson and serve his time.

Clarett has been given too many chances. In college full ride to play football and attend classes, then he gets free college courses in prison? Why does he deserve anything more from those of us that work for a living? He is a self made loser and always will be. College courses in prison what a joke he has made of the entore system.
