BUTLER COUNTY —

This week’s Indian summer-like weather is about to come to an abrupt halt.

Temperatures were expected to plummet 30 degrees between Thursday and Friday as a cold front arrived. Thursday’s temperature was close to 80, but will only reach the mid-50s today and then drop into the lower 40s, according to Meteorologist Mike Gallagher with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. There is a 70 percent to 80 percent chance of rain during the afternoon and evening.

Gallagher said there is a 70 percent chance of rain Saturday and temperatures will be in the lower 50s during the day and lower 40s at night.

Sunday looks to be slightly more sunny, with partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-30s and highs in the 50s.

Hurricane Sandy is barrelling towards the east coast and depending where that storm hits, Gallagher said weather here could get interesting next week.

“It all depends on where the system goes,” Gallagher said. “One scenario says we’re going to have rain and another says rain and a little snow.”

The storm is tracking toward New York currently, but it could move off toward the northeast. Snow predictions are based on the path Hurricane Sandy takes.
