TRENTON —

The annual Christmas in Trenton event kicks off at noon with the Santa Parade, which will run from the Trenton Community Park along State Street to Barn-n-Bunk on the west side of town.

Several other events will be scattered throughout the day at the city building, library and Barn-n-Bunk, including pictures with Santa from 12:30 to 4 p.m.; live entertainment from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.; children’s holiday crafts from 2 to 4 p.m. and the fourth annual Passport to Trenton scavenger hunt from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

The scavenger hunt is a way to explore the businesses in the city, as well as help needy families through the Trenton Ministerial Alliance. Anyone wishing to participate in the scavenger hunt can get a passport book at the city building, B-Safe Driving School or Barn-n-Bunk for $1 or with the donation of a canned good.

All proceeds will be donated to the ministerial alliance for needy families, according to Jim Foster, Trenton’s economic development director. Residents are asked to bring paper products to donate. Several hundred dollars in donations were collected at last year’s event, he said.

“We had an excellent year last year and we expect to have another one again this year,” Foster said.

Businesses participating in the scavenger hunt are also contributing door prizes.

“It’s a great opportunity for businesses to showcase themselves as well as to partake in the holiday cheer,” Foster said.

“My family has done the scavenger hunt for the last three years,” said Ken Schlueter, owner of EAS Sportswear at 825 W. State St. “It was a lot of fun for us and I felt it would be a good way to have people come in and see what we do. It’s also a way to be part of and give back to the community.”
