Teen sentenced in basketball game brawl

FAIRBORN —

A former student at Fairborn High School was sentenced Tuesday for his role in a brawl that cleared the stands during a Fairborn-Miamisburg basketball game.

Judge Stephen Wolaver of Greene County Common Pleas Court sentenced Devon Hamilton, 19, to 180 days in jail, 300 hours of community service and to pay more than $1,600 in restitution as well as $1,000 fine.

Hamilton, who was among dozens of fans who stormed the Fairborn basketball court in January, was found guilty in October of assault. During the Jan. 27 melee, investigators said Hamilton struck a Miamisburg basketball player in the face and the injuries required reconstructive surgery.

Hamilton, who originally faced an eight-year prison sentence, has graduated from Fairborn High School and plans to go to college, according to his attorney.
