Oct. 2
Two Elder-Beerman female employees were arrested and charged with petty theft after they were caught allegedly stealing more than $600 in merchandise from the store. The loss prevention officer told police he watched the two employees for nearly six hours. He said one employee, Angela Hinkel, 19, of Middletown, was seen tearing tags off of merchandise. Then another employee, Shyanne S. Evans, 18, of Middletown, took some items to the register where Hinkel was working. He said Evans pretended to pay for the items. He said Hinkel also took clothes to Evans’ cash register and pretended to swipe her credit card. Then the transaction was voided. The loss prevention officer told police both employees admitted to the shoplifting.
Oct. 5
A man said he lost his wallet, which included credit cards and about $100 in cash, in the parking lot of the American Legion, 116 S. Main St.
A copper wind chimes, valued at $40, were stolen off a house in the 1900 block of Fernwood Street.
An engine was stolen from a garage in the 2300 block of Superior Avenue, and the resident there said his sister’s air conditioner unit recently was stolen. He suspects the same person in both thefts.
A woman in the 1900 block of Lamberton Street said her boyfriend ripped off her 19-inch gold necklace off her neck and left the residence.
Oct. 6
Police arrested a Franklin woman, Nicole Newman, after she allegedly stole a woman’s purse that was sitting on a table at Hillbilly Heaven, 2502 Atco Ave. The bar’s surveillance camera showed the woman allegedly taking the purse and leaving the bar. A few minutes later, a credit card was used at Speedway in Franklin. When police drove to the woman’s address in the 6600 block of Linwood Road, she was found driving down the street.
A woman said she left her Tinkerbell purse in her unlocked car, and when she woke up the next morning, it was stolen. She said there were credit cards, and a child support card in her purse.
Someone walked into an unlocked residence in the 600 block of Richards Street and stole a 52-inch rented TV, valued at $1,200, two XBox games and an XBox Connect, all three valued at $400.
Sixty-five dollars were stolen from pants in a laundry basket, along with 40 to 50 DVDs, crossbow, shotgun, CB radio and a Toro lawnmover in the 500 block of Kensington Avenue.
Oct. 7
A decorative concrete bench, valued at $200, was stolen off a porch in the 4600 block of Moore Road.
A Trane air conditioner, valued at $1,500, was reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Hill Avenue.
Oct. 8
A Walmart employee, who was watched for six months by the store’s in-house security guard, allegedly stole $1,500 out of the cash register. The security staff said the woman took $120 on the day she was confronted. When questioned by Middletown police, Sunset Wells, 30, of the 6000 block of Mount Vernon Street, admitted to the theft. She was charged in the incident.
A Vail Middle School student, while waiting to be picked up by his mother after football practice, said he was assaulted by an eighth-grade VMS student. The boy told police the student pulled him into the school, slammed him against a locker and punched him numerous times in the left eye, which was nearly closed when police arrived.
More than $1,000 in fishing poles, a carburetor and intake, valued at $1,200, and tires were stolen from a shed in the 2000 block of Woodlawn Avenue. The owner said the shed was locked and the thieves gained entry by cutting off the lock.
A Middletown woman, who lives in the 6400 block of Culbertson Road, told police her ex-boyfriend’s friend, who was staying with her, stole a computer tower, GPS, $195 in cash, a $50 pre-paid Visa card, 90 Valiums, and a $200 food stamp card. The woman said the man borrowed her car, used all the gas, and left a heroin needle in the front seat.
Oct. 9
When the TV Middletown van was parked in the Middletown Board of Education lot, 1515 Girard Ave., someone stole its battery.
A woman in Dollar General, 3633 Dixie Highway. said she laid her cell phone on a shelf, and a few minutes later, it was gone.
An air-conditioning unit was stolen off a front porch of a home in the 2000 block of Arlington Avenue.
Four tires were stolen off a 2000 Cadillac DHS, and replaced with four older ones, and a grill and battery were stolen from the back seat in the 600 block of Crawford Street.
Two air conditioners in adjourning apartments were stolen in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Avenue.
A teacher at Highview Sixth Grade Center said someone stole her Apple iPad III, valued at $379. She said the iPad was there when she left for the day, but was gone the next morning.
