Police reports: 2 toddlers found walking in alley

Jan. 5

A Middletown man, Derrick Gibson, 24, was charged with soliciting/panhandling in the city limits after police found him begging for money from motorists on Ohio 122 near Interstate 75. Gibson admitted police had warned him against begging for money several times. He told police he was homeless, unemployed and his children were staying with their mother’s family at Reyton Inn. Three days late, Gibson was charged with the same offense.

Jan. 8

Someone stole a wallet that contained between $160 and $180 from a vehicle that was parked at Premier Fitness, 401 S. Breiel Blvd. The man said he locked his car and after working out, he discovered his wallet was missing. His car was still locked. He told police that someone must have got into his locker, stole his car keys, taken his money, then replaced his keys in the locker.

Jan. 9

A 17-year-old Middletown teen told police he accidentally shot himself in his right leg. He was taken to Atrium Medical Center emergency room. He said he put his .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, and he accidentally discharged the weapon near his home in the 300 block of Young Street. His mother was called and he was issued a Juvenile 101 for discharging a firearm in city limits. The boy told police that after he shot himself, he threw the gun down, but police were unable to find the gun in that location or in his home.

A Middletown man, Anthony W. White, 41, was charged with soliciting/panhandling in the city limits because he was begging for money on Ohio 122 near the Interstate 75 exit ramp. He told police he had been there for 30 minutes, but he had a pocketful of money.

Someone broke through a window, unlocked the door and stole a 32-inch Emerson flatscreen TV from an apartment in the 600 block of Lafayette Avenue.

A gas grill was stolen from the back yard of a home in the 2200 block of Grand Avenue.

Several video games were stolen from a residence in the 2000 block of Van Avenue.

Several tools were stolen out of a pickup that was parked in the 1900 block of Fernwood Street. The cordless kit, circular saw and sawzall were valued at $500.

An air conditioner was stolen from outside a residence in the 1800 block of Wayne Avenue.

Two young children, a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old, were found walking in the alley in the 2400 block of Sherman Avenue. One child was wearing a diaper, no shoes and no socks. Their mother was located and she told police the 2-year-old must have opened the door. Police told her to take preventative measures to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Jan. 10

A man who lives in Garden Manor, 6898 Hamilton Middletown Road, told police that he had $111 in his pants pocket when he went to bed, and the money was gone in the morning. His daughter said this was the second time someone has stolen his money.
