MIDDLETOWN —

Police have arrested the man who allegedly robbed a US Bank Thursday afternoon.

Kenneth D. Crawford, 53, was found walking in the Germantown Road and Verity Parkway area of the city today when police arrested him at 1:40 p.m.

Middletown police Lt. Scott Reeve attributed the quick arrest of Crawford to the photos shown by various media outlets.

“He was quickly identified after his photos were broadcast,” he said.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, Crawford, who is homeless, allegedly walked into the bank at 4410 Roosevelt Blvd., displayed a note to a teller demanding money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Middletown police. Reeve said this is the first bank robbery of the year in the city.

Crawford is being charged with robbery, a third-degree felony.

There were five to six employees in the bank at the time of the robbery, as well as customers, but Reeve said he doesn’t believe the customers knew what was going on. Police were notified by a silent alarm.

Crawford allegedly left the bank and headed north on Breiel Boulevard, where Reeve said investigators believe he got into a vehicle.

Reeve said Crawford had been living at a hotel near Interstate 75 but had been kicked out last week due to nonpayment.

In 2008, Crawford was arrested for robbing a First Financial Bank in Warren County and found guilty in January 2009 of the third-degree robbery charge. He was required to pay $1,200 in restitution and sentenced to a year in prison, according to Warren County court records.

Crawford also has criminal records in Middletown and Hamilton, including robbery, forgery, theft, passing bad checks, an expired license, fictitious registration and domestic violence.

US Bank had offered up to a $10,000 reward for information that led to the arrest and conviction of Crawford. Bank officials said rewards are always paid at the recommendation of federal law enforcement.
