More mild weather in store for today

MIAMI VALLEY —

We’re promised one more day of mild weather as the temperature will hit about 60 on Tuesday, but that will be the end of any warmth as a coming cold front will bring rain as it moves through, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said Monday afternoon.

The high Monday recorded at Dayton International Airport reached 67, which is 4 degrees off the record of 71 for the date, Simpson said. The average high Monday was 42, so the Miami Valley will end the day up about 25 degrees above the average.

The change for Tuesday will follow a very mild Monday evening, with many locations dropping only to about 60 or the upper 50s by midnight.

“We’ll see more breaks in the clouds this evening then see more clouds by morning, which should prevent more fog from developing,” Simpson said Monday afternoon.

Simpson said he’s expecting the area to remain dry through the Tuesday morning commute. Then there will be rain, steady at times, arriving by midday northwest of Dayton and by the early afternoon southeast of Dayton. A few rumbles of thunder are possible as well.

Eventually, rain will end from northwest to southeast later in the afternoon into early evening.

Skies will clear Tuesday night and temperatures will fall into the low to mid 30s to start the day Wednesday, Simpson said.

Despite sun all day Wednesday, Miami Valley temperatures will climb back into the lower 40s in the afternoon, in large part because of a northerly breeze supplying the area with chillier air.

Sun will give way to some late clouds Thursday — the area’s coldest start of the week with temperatures in the upper 20s as winds become westerly again to take temperatures back into the upper 40s by the afternoon.

More clouds and showers return Friday and some rain may be in the Miami Valley at times every day through next Monday, Dec. 10.
