MIDDLETOWN —

An employee at Meijer was arrested on theft charges after he helped to steal a vacuum cleaner and a box of candy.

Brandon Rudie, 32, was charged with petty theft after he pretended to scan a Dyson vacuum cleaner and a box of mint candy, removed the security tag from the vacuum cleaner, and allowed the “customer” to leave without paying.

Rudie was found guilty by Middletown Municipal Court Judge Mark Wall on Dec. 21. He had 59 days of his 60-day sentence suspended as he already served one day in jail.

Meijer security officials told police that an unidentified man left the store with the vacuum cleaner, valued at $650, and candy, valued at $2.08.

In 2003, Rudie had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted possession of a marijuana pipe, according to court records.
