SOUTHWEST OHIO —

Scattered showers will taper off northwest to southeast from 7 a.m. to about 10 a.m. as a cold front moves through the Miami Valley, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said. Watch your 5-Day Forecast.

Skies on Friday will give false hope. Behind the front through midday there should be a clearing out to expose lots of sun for a few hours. Winds will pick up through midday as well, with some gusts to 30 mph or so.

Those winds will bring in the colder air and drop temperatures from the mid to upper 40s all morning to the upper 30s by sunset.

Record-setting Holiday

Thanksgiving Day 2012 in the Miami Valley set a record as the warmest in more than three decades, Simpson said.

Thursday’s high, as measured at Dayton International Airport, reached 62 to make it the warmest Turkey Day since 1981.

Flurries, Light Snow Next Week?

Miami Valley skies will remain fairly cloudy Friday night and Saturday and it will also still be breezy.

Saturday morning’s temperatures will be in the mid 20s, rising to the mid 30s by afternoon. The wind direction on Saturday appears to be favorable for some lake-effect snow to develop off of Lake Michigan and drift toward the northern Miami Valley.

“I believe we could see some light flurries north of I-70, but nothing more that some flakes falling,” Simpson said.

Sunday will be cold again to start, with temperatures falling back into the mid 20s. A bit more sun and less breeze will allow the Miami Valley to move back into the mid 40s in the afternoon, Simpson said.

Monday starts dry with some sun, but clouds move in quickly and rain is probable into the evening.

Tuesday will be a lousy day, Simpson said, with temperatures rising to the mid 40s in the afternoon. As rain moves out, there might be enough colder air in to allow for a brief period of light snow Tuesday night.

There are still some things that need to come together for that to happen, he said, and it appears there is a chance of light snow but by no means is it a guarantee.
