MIDDLETOWN —

Two Middletown men whose court histories are peppered with drug-related convictions are each facing charges for aggravated robbery.

Chad Wright, 30, of Seventh Avenue, and Murrie Conley, 50, of North Grimes Street, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Wright is also charged with carrying a concealed loaded weapon, obstructing justice, tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability.

Police were dispatched at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of North Grimes Street for a reported robbery.

When Wright noticed the police cruiser pulling up to 116 N. Grimes, police say he ran west toward Leibee. Officers chased on foot and caught Wright in the alley at Church and Leibee streets.

During the chase, officers said Wright allegedly threw a loaded 9mm – with one bullet in the chamber – which landed on the roof of a building on North Leibee.

The robbery victim told police he had gone to 116 N. Grimes to help Conley move furniture. At that point, he told police, Wright and Conley, 50, robbed him of $180.

Wright had $420 in his possession along with two cell phones. Conley was not located Tuesday, but a warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday.

Wright has four drug convictions in Butler County Common Pleas Court and Conley has a carrying a concealed weapon and gross sexual imposition convictions, among others, according to court records.

Wright was arraigned Wednesday morning and was issued a public defender. He will have a preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Conley was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning, but court information was not available as to the hearing’s results.
