MIDDLETOWN — Local kids don’t need to travel to a galaxy far, far away to be a “Jedi.” They can go to the Middletown Public Library Saturday, Feb. 13, to learn the ways of “The Force.”
The library at 125 S. Broad St. will hold a “Jedi Training Camp” based on the popular science fiction movie trilogies at 2 p.m. And while kids won’t be battling with lightsabers or learning how to levitate objects with a thought, they will participate in several activities involving “Star Wars” lore, said Jessica Chamberlain, children’s team leader at the library.
“We were trying to do something that would appeal to young kids,” Chamberlain said, noting the event is geared toward ages 5 to 12. The library has held other themed events, such as a recent “Fancy Nancy” party.
Activities will include a guessing game where kids will have to identify Star Wars images shown to them during a PowerPoint presentation. They also will listen to sound clips from the movies, and be asked to guess how those sounds are made, Chamberlain said.
Kids also will design their own planets.
They’ll get a design sheet that presents ideas for them to pattern their fictional world after — for instance will it be a desert planet like Tatooine from the original Star Wars film? Or will it be more like Hoth, the ice planet from “The Empire Strikes Back”?
“We’ll also have activities where they can balance an M&M on a stick and walk across the room,” Chamberlain said.
No registration is required. For more information, call (513) 424-8042.
