Jail inmate dies after being taken to hospital

By Staff Report

HAMILTON — Butler County sheriff’s and coroner’s office officials are investigating why a female jail inmate died Sunday after being taken to a local hospital.

Sgt. Monte Mayer, sheriff’s office spokesman, stated in a news release that Ruby J. Farley, 52, of Springdale, was being held at the county’s Court Street Jail when she suffered from an apparent medical issue about noon Sunday.

Farley was taken by Hamilton paramedics to The Fort Hamilton Hospital, where she died about 1:30 p.m.

Farley was arrested Friday on a contempt of court charge issued by Hamilton Municipal Court. She was booked into jail pending a court appearance, the release stated.

Late Sunday morning, Farley told jail personnel she felt sick and began vomiting.

Jail personnel were administering CPR when paramedics arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

A preliminary investigation did not reveal any visible signs of any trauma wounds or any indication of criminal actions, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Tuesday morning, according to the coroner’s office.
