Fire destroys vacant home

Staff Report

FRANKLIN — An overnight fire destroyed a vacant home on Franklin’s west side Thursday morning.

Franklin fire crews were dispatched to the 800 block of Park Avenue at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday for a home “fully engulfed” by flames, according to Chief Jonathan Westendorf.

Westendorf also said that crews were able to “knock down” the fire in about one-and-a-half hours.

There were no injuries, according to Westendorf, who also said he believes the fire is accidental.

Damage estimates were not available, but Westendorf said the single-story ranch home is a total loss.

There was some additional damage done to a neighboring home, but it was caused from a hose line and not the fire, according to Westendorf.
