Jeweler to offer prizes during bone marrow donor drive

WEST CHESTER TWP. —

Yelton Fine Jewelers will host a “Be The Match” bone marrow donor drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in its parking lot at 9263 Schulze Drive, West Chester Twp.

Every year, 10,000 patients with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases need a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor, but only half receive one. The Be The Match Foundation raises funds to help patients who need a bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant find a donor and receive treatment. Area residents ages 18 to 44 are eligible to register with the national bone marrow donor registry. A swab from inside the cheek is all that is required.

“Our store’s founder, Ray Yelton, received a transplant many years ago” said store owner Mark Yelton. “So this organization is dear to our hearts.”

“Though he is now gone, we want to ensure others have the same chance at a longer life with their loved ones that he was given,” said co-owner and wife Tina Yelton.

As an added incentive to participate, the store will be awarding prizes to individuals who stop in to register as a donor that day.
