Heroes’ Fund event Saturday benefits veterans

The Fifth Annual Heroes’ Fund Celebration is Saturday to raise money to provide emergency assistance to area combat veterans.

The Heroes’ Fund provides one-time support to veterans in Butler, Warren and Hamilton counties, said Donald Hoffman, chairman of the advisory board. The Heroes’ Fund can help with automobile repair bills, medical bills, utility bills, referral services or emergency aid.

“The goal is to help someone in a temporary state of need,” Hoffman said.

The Heroes’ Fund provides about $30,000 worth of assistance to about 10 families each year, according to Hoffman. He said a recent example included helping a husband and wife — both veterans — to pay bills during a two-month period when they were out of work due to layoffs and an injury.

The fifth annual celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Cincinnati Marriott North in West Chester Twp. Hoffman said the event includes live and silent auctions, raffles, a 16-piece orchestra performing in World War II Air Force uniforms, dinner and guest speaker Col. Dean Smittle, a military analyst on 700WLW.

Tickets are $65 per person; $585 for a table of 10. Reserve a spot by calling the West Chester/Liberty Community Foundation at (513) 874-5450.

Rebecca Wilber, president and owner of CTI Restaurants, will present a $7,000 check to the Heroes’ Fund during the Nov. 10 event.
