MIDDLETOWN —

Davey’s Super Carry-Out, which closed after a 52-year run in Middletown, is coming back to life.

The business, which closed in January 2009, has been purchased by a Tipp City company that is renovating the grocery store and adding gas pumps, said Amarjit Singh, owner of N&G Takhar Oil Co.

He hopes to have the business operational by the middle of September. Right now, the gas tanks are being installed.

The company is spending about $34,000 to install a canopy for the gas station and $32,000 remodeling the inside, according to the city’s monthly building permits.

Marty Kohler, planning director for the City of Middletown, said having a convenience store at 1510 Germantown Road will be “very beneficial” to those in the neighborhood. When Davey’s, which was owned and operated by Bob Davidson, closed, Kohler said it was “sorely missed” in the community.

Singh said the company purchased the property last winter for $210,000. He said the company operates about 30 Valero gas stations in the Dayton and Cincinnati markets.

He said the gas station will hire three to four employees and possibly more, depending on business.

Singh said his company looked to expand and was attracted to Middletown. He said the company believes the location — despite being surrounded by other gas stations — can support a grocery store and gas station, he said.
