Employers: Learn how to get free training funds

MIDDLETOWN —

Employers in the city are invited to attend an informational seminar this week to learn about how to get a share of millions of dollars of training money from the state.

The seminar is being sponsored by the city of Middletown and the Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton. It will be at noon on Friday at the chamber’s offices, 1500 Central Ave.

The state is anticipated to release $50 million of workforce development funding on a competitive basis for incumbent worker training. The process is to be competitive so city officials are urging employers to have their applications ready now. Employers will be able to apply for up to $8,000 per worker.

Among the eligibility requirements, an employer must operate as a for-profit entity in a state-designated targeted industry with a facility located in Ohio. The employer must be in continuous operation for the 12 months immediately prior to the application being submitted.

The targeted employee must be 18 years old, earning 150 percent of the federal minimum wage ($10.88 per hour), is an Ohio resident and works at least 25 hours a week.

For information on the application process, employers can contact Shannon Vanderpool with the Ohio Development Services Agency at Shannon.Vanderpool@development.ohio.gov.

For general information, contact Middletown Economic Development Director Denise Hamet at (513) 425-7847.
