SPRINGFIELD —

Three juveniles were arrested for disorderly conduct Friday night after a fight led to 35 law enforcement officers responding to Springfield High School’s football game, according to Springfield police.

The incident began when three teenage girls got into a fight at the Wildcats’ game against Middletown High School at Evans Stadium, said Lt. Jeff Meyer of the Springfield Police Division.

Officers tried to separate the combatants and basically they were surrounded by about 300 people and things just started getting out of control,” he said.

The crowd threw rocks at officers’ vehicles and the Middletown buses, but no damages were reported, Meyer said. Thirty-five officers from Springfield, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene.

The three girls involved in the original altercation were arrested and released to their parents, Meyer said.

Officers found one unspent 9 mm shell in the bleachers after the game, but there were no confirmed reports of weapons, Meyer said.

School officials plan to meet this week with police to discuss the incident, said Kim Fish, communications coordinator for the district.

“We do have plans to meet with the police on Tuesday at the high school and athletic department level and we are looking at and will continue to do everything we can to make sure that the games are safe and orderly and that people don’t bring their problems from the street into a school event,” she said.
