Police investigate ‘pushout theft’ attempt at Walmart

By Michael D. Pitman

Staff Writer

MIDDLETOWN — The Walmart store manager on Towne Boulevard told police that a man attempted to steal a cart full of cleaning supplies and detergent, which is similar to other Walmart thefts, according to police.

At 1:07 p.m. July 3, Middletown police say a person described as Hispanic man in this 30s with a ponytail and numerous tattoos attempted to push out a shopping cart loaded with the cleaning supplies and detergent valued at $152. The man, wearing a white tank top and black shorts, noticed Walmart manager Jen Barrett and abandoned the cart.

Barrett told police this attempted theft matches other recent “cart pushout thefts” at various Walmarts. Police did not know Tuesday which Walmarts had the similar thefts.

Barrett told police she followed the man and saw him get into a gold-silver four-door 1999 Buick registered to a 24-year-old Hamilton woman.

Barrett said heard the man talk on a cell phone telling someone, “I didn’t get anything out of this one,” implying they were going to try to steal from another Walmart, according to the report.
