MIDDLETOWN —

Bentley Chiropractic Center recently moved to a location that quadruples its size, allowing it to add a staffing position and better handle its increasing clientele.

Founded in 1998, the Middletown practice had been in a nearly 2,000-square-foot office on Roosevelt Boulevard since 2000 until growth forced it to look for more spacious headquarters.

“Because it was a smaller office we were having traffic jams inside the office with patients trying to check in and check out,” said Dr. A.J. Bentley, a Middletown native. “We were taking care of so many people, so business has been good.”

The new 8,000-square-foot location on 3630 Commerce Drive, two doors down from McDonald’s and close to Atrium Medical Center, is the former site of Reed Chiropractic, which occupied the site from the late 1970s until July.

“We got together and worked out a deal and I was able to move into his office right after they closed,” Bentley said. “The intent of moving was to give me more space to see the patients we already have, but also to allow for more growth, because I really want to bring another doctor or two to work for me. That way we can do even more work.”

Since opening Aug. 6, the practice has been seeing 60 to 70 patients a day, including new patients and former Reed Chiropractic patients. That’s an increase compared to the 50 to 60 patients it was able to accommodate at its previous location, Bentley said.

On Wednesday, the practice set a personal record by seeing 91 patients.

Changes the practice made to the building include turning two smaller rooms into one room for in-house rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Bentley Chiropractic also turned one larger room used as an insurance office into two smaller rooms for an insurance office and a consultation room, the latter of which was not available in Bentley’s previous space.

The larger facility allowed Bentley to add an employee for billing purposes, boosting his staff to six, not including Bentley himself.

Kendall Mays of Turtlecreek Twp. , a Bentley Chiropractic patients, said the new space offers more privacy than the old one.

“The rehab there was open to where everybody could watch you,” Mays said. “Now it’s in a room by itself. Also, he only had two rooms to do the adjustment in and now he’s got four, including massage therapy. In the old place it was right there with other people and now it’s in a room of its own.”

Amanda Haddix, a former patient who now uses her experience to help grow Bentley Chiropractic as the practice representative, said she came to Bentley’s office “in horrible, horrible shape” and he diagnosed her with adrenal failures.

“No one could diagnose me and I was really sick and having a lot of pain and health problems,” Haddix said. “Dr. Bentley is the only doctor who was able to find it because of his expertise in botanical nutrition.”

“Now I’m healthier than I’ve ever been thanks to Dr. Bentley.”
