Bullying Reports: It’s the Law
House Bill 276 requires all school districts provide semiannual written summaries of all reported incidents to the president of the district board of education or community school governing authority, and post them on the district’s or school’s web site.
Here’s a summary of what Butler County Districts are posting:
Edgewood City Schools: Reports 72 reported incidents and 12 “actual hazing/bullying” incidents for the 2011-12 school year.
Fairfield City Schools: “In the 2011-2012 school year for the period August 23, 2011 through June 30, 2012, 15 incidents of hazing and/or bullying were reported in the district.”
Hamilton City Schools: Posted report for the second semester of the 2011-12 school year includes 29 incidents of sexual harassment reported, 29 investigations, 26 consequences issued; 4 incidents of hate-based harassment reported, 4 investigations, 4 consequences issued; 0 incidents of gang or cult related harassment reported; 31 incidents of other forms of harassment reported, 31 investigations, 29 consequences issued; 16 incidents of bullying reported, 16 investigations, 16 consequences issued.
Lakota Local Schools: Statistics posted for quarters ending Jan. 19 and May 31, 2012, reporting 30 total incidents of bullying, broken down by building.
Madison: Separate reports for elementary and secondary. Latest reports for the first semester of the 2012-2013 school year, 8 elementary school verified acts of harassment, intimidation and bullying. During second semester of the 2011-2012 school year, there were 5 high school and 4 junior high school verified acts of harassment, intimidation and bullying.
Middletown: Unable to locate report on-line. School did not provide a report when requested.
Monroe: Not posted due to recent revision of web site, but Superintendent Phil Cagwin provided a detailed report that included number of incidents at each building, along with the disciplinary outcome of each incident and a summary of staff training. For the 2011-12 school year, the district reports 13 bullying occurrences, 21 incidents involving 9 students at Monroe Jr. High School, and 26 “bullying conferences with warnings issued” at Monroe High School.
New Miami Local Schools: Unable to locate report on-line. School did not provide a report when requested.
Ross Local Schools: Reports 6 instances of bullying for the 2011-12 school year and 10 reported harassment incidents, broken down by school.
Talawanda: Reports 67 instances of bullying, 49 verbal and 18 physical, but does not indicate time period.
