One of the most ingenious public relation campaigns of all time has been the Susan G. Komen For the Cure “pink ribbon” campaign which focuses on breast cancer awareness.
In the past few years, I have seen pink ribbons on everything from Barbie dolls to soft drinks. A portion of every dollar earned from the sale of a “pink ribbon” product goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which desires that they be viewed as an agency that fights breast cancer.
Those of us who run pro-life pregnancy centers nationwide are very aware that the Susan G. Komen Foundation is one of Planned Parenthood’s largest donors, giving them nearly $750,000 annually. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, obtained more than 40 percent of their income providing abortion services. Add to that our nation’s governmental subsidy of $300 million, which comes out of your own back pocket, and you’ve got yourself a pretty wealthy entity.
It has long been suspected that one of the key risk factors for breast cancer is abortion. ... For an organization whose primary goal is to have a world without breast cancer, you would think the Susan G. Komen Foundation would try to let women know all risk factors involved, especially those (that are) preventable, like abortion. ...
Additionally, the business relationship between Susan G. Komen and Planned Parenthood appears to have deep roots. Only this past week, it was revealed that both entities are joint shareholders and have a controlling interest in an Illinois shopping mall, causing Planned Parenthood to currently come under investigation for Medicaid fraud. So in the end, you see, it really is all about the money. Except now, it’s your money.
I would ask each of you to carefully consider in future the following principles when donating your hard-earned money to any agency:
1) Do not give to organizations that shed innocent blood.
2) Know and recognize the risk factors for the disease you are trying to prevent.
3) Hold accountable any organization that is fortunate enough to receive your donation.
